- Description
- Innovation is a priority for public and community sectors. Yet, as Chapter 1 of this book suggests, there remains a deficit of knowledge about the nature of innovation and the practicalities of how innovation is achieved. Collaboration, via networks, is argued to be a key innovation conduit. The literature points to a nexus between collaborative networks and the micro-management process of negotiation (McGuire 2006; Waterhouse et al. 2011). Design thinking provides an emergent and complementary construct to better explicate the mechanisms and practices necessary for the creation of both new engagement arenas and innovative outcomes. This chapter is therefore primarily concerned with examining the role of negotiation as an important micro-management process for collaboration and innovation, and how this intersects with design thinking.
